The honor of the Academic Palm is awarded by the French Ministry of Education on the proposal of the French Embassy in Italy.

It was Napoleon Bonaparte who established it in 1808. Originally it was intended only for professors at the University of Paris, then in 1955 the President of the Republic Renè Coty extended it to all those teachers, even non-French, who distinguish themselves in the teaching of the French language.

The Aula Magna of the University of Sassari hosted the ceremony of the Palmes Académiques which were awarded with the rank of Officier to Professor Carmen Marongiu, French language teacher at the Eleonora d'Arborea Linguistic Institute of Cagliari, while Professor Lorenzo Devilla of the University of Sassari was awarded the Palmes of the rank of Chevalier.

The ceremony opened with greetings from the Rector, Gavino Mariotti. The Consul General of France in Rome, Fabrice Maiolino, and the cultural attaché of the Institut Francais, Leila Chaib, were present.
