Freight transport and price increases: the wave of increases overwhelms Sardinian companies
Confagricoltura's warning. Rice, wine and cheese: a blow to exportsPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The wave had already been seen, in the distance, a year ago: with the entry into force of the ETS - a system that the EU introduced to discourage polluting emissions - freight transport rates had increased from one day to the next, due to the new tax that shipowners passed directly on to logistics companies. Now that the Emission Trading System has taken another leap forward since January 1st, prices have increased further.
Plus 20 percent, on already significant amounts. A tsunami that is overwhelming all Sardinian companies that have to deal with ferries to secure raw materials or some fundamental components for their products, and obviously risks sinking the fragile export market as well. In short: the disadvantages of insularity, instead of decreasing - after the recognition in the Constitution - are increasing.
"The goal of decarbonization is a commitment that the productive world is called to respect", begins Stefano Taras, president of Confagricoltura Sardegna, "but all this makes sense if it is shared. We cannot accept that these burdens are downloaded onto agricultural producers and the agri-food sector of the Island". Translated: prices, already soared in recent years, will rise further.
