“In Italy, tourism is returning to pre-Covid levels. More than fifty million travelers arrived in the country every year from all parts of the world. This number will grow even more ".

This was declared by the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini in Monserrato (Cagliari), speaking at one of the events organized for the 160th anniversary of the Pietro Martini Institute, one of the oldest in Sardinia.

"We must ensure that these large flows do not stop only in Venice, Florence and Rome - he added - but affect all the beauties that exist in Italy".

The allocation of funds from the NRP on the villages should be interpreted in this direction. “We have put in a billion euros to revalue the villages and 600 million to recover rural buildings: the villages are an Italian peculiarity of unique beauty, often uninhabited. We are talking about thousands of tourist attractions that can promote sustainable and smart growth and create jobs ”.

According to the minister, the tourism of the future is "experiential". Even in Sardinia it is full of villages, “places of extraordinary beauty that are not valued”. On the island, he explained, “we are carrying out a very important intervention on the Giants of Mont'e Prama. If we were in Arizona there would already be ten or fifteen million visitors a year, we must be able to reach these numbers and understand that Sardinia has great opportunities beyond the sea. I am thinking of archeology, food and wine, historic railways, paths ".
