Forza Italia has submitted two amendments to the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies to the crackdown on citizenship proposed by the League. The bill introduces both specific grounds for denial of citizenship for young people of foreign origin born in Italy who commit crimes, and new grounds for revocation.

The Forza Italia supporters are calling for limiting the grounds for denial of citizenship to crimes against the person and those with higher penalties, that is, those punishable by imprisonment for more than three years, and excluding negligent crimes.

FI also intends to repeal the provision that extends the requirement for foreigners born in Italy and who have resided there continuously until reaching adulthood to demonstrate a B1 level of Italian language proficiency in order to obtain citizenship. The rationale is that in this case, compulsory education is considered fulfilled.

The Azzurri have not proposed changes to the grounds for revoking citizenship for those who commit crimes.
