Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1, has met with officials in Hanoi and the Vietnamese government to discuss the possibility of hosting a race in the capital next year, the Vietnam Express newspaper reported.

Vietnam, together with South Africa, is one of the strong candidates to join the 2024 calendar, and the fact that Domenicali stopped off in the Asian country on his way to Australia bodes well. The Hanoi People's Committee has not yet confirmed the news. The first Vietnam Grand Prix should have been held on the Hanoi Street Circuit, a mixed circuit, partly street and partly permanent.

The track was built next to My Dinh National Stadium in April 2020, but after several postponements due to Covid, Hanoi officially canceled the event.

At present, the area has been handed over to the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and part of the infrastructure is being used for national sporting events.
