Former Cagliari sporting director Nicola Salerno, 69, died today in Matera, where he was born.
In the 2003-2004 Serie B championship, Salerno won his first Serie A title as sporting director with Cagliari .
In his CV, always as sporting director, he has been twice in Cagliari, Ravenna, Licata, Triestina, Messina, Catania, Foggia.
And then, again with Salernitana, Messina and Grosseto, Catania, Palermo, and in England at Leeds United and as a consultant for Watford.
Cagliari Calcio, a statement reads, mourns the passing of Nicola Salerno, former sporting director and then head of the first team's technical department. A skilled leader, he was instrumental in securing promotion to Serie A in the 2003/04 season. The Club extends its deepest sympathy to his loved ones.
