In the single 16-team group for the upcoming Eccellenza championship, two Gallura teams could drop out at the last minute: one is Ilvamaddalena, which, as a playoff finalist, has a chance of being relegated to Serie D, and the other is Olbia, about whom there has been no official news for some time and for whom the worst is feared.
The silence, which has lasted for over a month, since the defeat against Ischia which cost them relegation to the playouts, does not bode well, with the hypothesis of failure to register for the relevant tournament being the most popular among the whites who, in the meantime, have also lost the “Bruno Nespoli” stadium, the renovation of which will cost the municipal administration several hundred thousand euros.
The investors who were supposed to help Prosoccer pay the installments for the transfer of ownership of Olbia Calcio to SwissPro and organize the 2026/27 season are nowhere to be found, while the June 30th deadline for the first tranche of €125,000 approaches, as does the deadline after which the players will be officially released and can move elsewhere.
On the one hand, there are those who hope that Prosoccer will find the resources to pay the sum owed to SwissPro and register for the Eccellenza championship by the deadline (last year the deadline was July 18th). If Olbia were to return to the Swiss, there would be no time to avoid forfeiting, and bankruptcy would be just around the corner.
On the other hand, however, there are those who hope for precisely this—failure—to close one of the darkest chapters of the glorious, centuries-old Gallura club and start over, with a new club and a new roster. This reasoning gives an idea of the current state of affairs and the climate, sad in some respects but by no means resigned, that pervades the city.
