Football mourns Carlo Mazzone , one of the most iconic figures of football Italy: as a coach, he led twelve different teams, over a period of almost forty years. His is the bench record in Serie A , 792 overall. He died in Rome, aged 86.
Many memories left by "Carletto" also in Cagliari, to which two close experiences link him: the first began in 1991. Mazzone came from Pescara, and immediately achieved salvation with the rossoblùs. A year later he surpassed himself, with seventh place which earned him qualification for the UEFA Cup, where however the Sardinians were led by Giorgi (Carletto accepted the court of "his" Rome).
After three years in yellow and red he returned to Cagliari, for the 1996-97 season, taking over from Perez after six days: the Mazzone bis, however, was decidedly more bitter than the first, with the famous play-off in Naples lost against Piacenza, which cost the rossoblù the relegation.
The last experience on the bench in 2006, as coach of Livorno in Serie A.
