The custom of feeding the deceased and ideally feasting, a tradition spread throughout the Mediterranean that dates back to the ancient era of Christianity.
Pier Giorgio Spanu, professor of Archeology at the University of Sassari, guest at the Antiquarium Turritano museum in Porto Torres, will talk about some practices in use in the first centuries of the Christian era, relating to the ritual consumption of food, with a speech entitled: " Pax et concordia sit our convivio. Foods and funerary banquets of the first Christians”.
The staple food was bread and cereals, roasted fish preferred to meat, and wine mixed with water, a true funeral home complete with a banquet as evidenced by the presence of triclinate beds used for eating both inside and outside the funerary monuments.
Everything is told by the discovery of pottery containing food remains and burnt traces. The topic is the subject of the conference scheduled for Thursday at 17 in the hall of the museum, an initiative organized as part of the series of conferences "The thousand and one museum" by the Regional Directorate of Museums of Sardinia with the University of Sassari, curated by by Luana Toniolo and the teacher Paola Ruggeri.
