The peak of cases of flu-like syndromes has been passed: after having reached the highest number of the season in the fourth week of 2025 and having recorded a decrease in the fifth, a decrease is also observed in the sixth.

This is highlighted in the latest RespiVirNet report from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) , just published.

In the fourth week, in particular, there was an incidence of 17.6 cases per thousand patients, in the fifth of 16.9 and in the sixth of 14.8 cases.

The estimated cases of influenza-like syndrome, in relation to the entire Italian population, are approximately 872,000, for a total of approximately 10,742,000 cases since the beginning of surveillance.

The incidence is decreasing in all age groups, according to the ISS, although more so in children under five years of age where it is equal to 37.3 cases per thousand assisted (42.8 in the previous week).

The regions most affected were Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Umbria, Abruzzo, Campania, Puglia and Sardinia .

Basilicata and Calabria have not activated epidemiological surveillance. During the sixth week, again according to the ISS report, the circulation of influenza viruses is decreasing.

There is a decrease in the percentage of samples testing positive for influenza (30%), compared to the previous week (38%), and it is confirmed that the seasonal peak of samples testing positive for influenza was reached in the fourth week.

Of the 3,461 samples received by the laboratories of the RespiVirNet network, 1,045 tested positive for influenza, of which 666 were type A and 379 were type B.
