Flying from Cagliari to Rome and Milan tomorrow and Monday is like winning the lottery. From a search on the Aeroitalia website last night, finding a seat is practically impossible: for Fiumicino, departing tomorrow, there are still tickets available only for 6:00 and 7:30 a.m., with a waiting list for all other times. On Monday, nothing, sold out.
For Linate, tomorrow is sold out and on Monday there will be some availability on the first flight, at 6 a.m., then only a waiting list, a condition that – as we know – does not guarantee boarding; seats are assigned only if there is a free space before the flight closes.
The complaint
"After the unavailability of seats, the flights departing and returning to base as a precaution, and the recent episode with the damaged tire, Sardinian passengers face a new penalty: the waitlist, meaning they miss their confirmed flight." This was reported by Ugo Cappellacci, MP and president of the Chamber of Deputies' Social Affairs Committee. "The mechanism envisaged by Aeroitalia is paradoxical: a passenger with a confirmed seat, for example on the 8:00 PM flight, who requests to be put on the waitlist for the 8:00 AM flight must give up their existing reservation. If no seats become available on the previous flight, they risk not departing at either 8:00 AM or 8:00 PM."
