The "Fiume Santo Energy Park" project by Ep Produzione was presented in Sassari in the presence of institutional representatives and local administrators and the company's top management, which will allow the industrial site of Fiume Santo, in the territories of Sassari and Porto Torres , to continue to contribute to the energy security of the territory even after the coal phase-out.

EP Production proposes to implement an integrated and balanced energy mix of renewable energy (onshore and offshore photovoltaic, batteries, hydrogen and biomass) and low environmental impact (natural gas), up to a total power of one thousand megawatts, which will be able to contribute to the path towards a sustainable energy transition, in line with the European goals for energy and climate.

The project involves a total of up to 1 billion euro of investments and represents an opportunity for the relaunch of the Sardinian economy with benefits also on employment levels: in fact , up to about 600 new highly qualified jobs will be created during the construction stages of the project and up to 300 employees for plant operation.

Today the thermoelectric plant of EP Produzione di Fiume Santo is in operation with two coal-fired groups for a total net power of approximately 600 MW, considered essential for the stability of the national grid.

«The first commitment remains to keep the existing units in efficient operation, essential for guaranteeing energy security for Sardinian families and businesses - said Luca Alippi, CEO of EP Produzione - but at the same time EP is evaluating solutions for a more sustainable and in line with the Italian and European decarbonisation objectives. We are the fifth largest electricity producer in Italy and we intend to help promote a balanced and sustainable energy transition".

"Today it is essential to adopt sustainable production processes that tend as much as possible to preserve and protect the environment," added Giovanni Conoci, vice president of Confindustria Centro Nord Sardegna .

For the mayor Massimo Mulas «there is no foreclosure to the industrial project, but we want to understand what is happening and what are the added values for our territory, such as Porto Torres, among the municipalities affected by land consumption. We want to know about the projects that move towards the sea, what potential repercussions I can have for the entire North-West territory».
