Carbonia is preparing to turn the spotlight back on the big screen : from 5 to 9 November 2025 the Carbonia Film Festival returns, one of the most anticipated and consolidated cultural events of the Sardinian autumn.
Under the artistic direction of Francesco Giai Via, the festival confirms itself as a dynamic meeting place between cinema, culture and social reflection, with a rich program that ranges from screenings, debates and moments of discussion designed to tell and question our time.
But the wait will not be silent : in the middle of summer, on Tuesday 5 August, the festival will offer a special preview with the Cinema Sotto le Stelle review, in the enchanting setting of the Arena Mirastelle of the Cine-Teatro Centrale in Carbonia.
The program includes the screening of “Iddu – The Last Godfather”, a film that explores the myth and dark figure of Matteo Messina Denaro, the last mafia boss, between civil tension and cinematic narration.
The evening will be enriched by the exceptional presence of directors Antonio Piazza and Fabio Grassadonia , already acclaimed for Sicilian Ghost Story, and the intense Barbora Bobulova, protagonist of the film. The authors will meet the public to reveal the behind the scenes of a work that moves on the thin ridge between genre story and civil commitment.
The Carbonia Film Festival 2025 presents itself to the public with a new visual look : the signature is of the illustrator Camilla Falsini, who has already curated the graphics of the two previous editions.
The new logo is a small work of art: a mining lamp, symbol of the city, which illuminates a dark round-arched tunnel, evoking the historic architecture of Carbonia.
The Carbonia Film Festival is promoted by the Carbonia Cultural Services Centre of the Società Umanitaria – La Fabbrica del Cinema, together with the CSC Cagliari – Cineteca Sarda, with the contribution of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia (Department of Public Education, Cultural Heritage, Information, Entertainment and Sport), the Municipality of Carbonia and the support of the Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission.
