An alternative to the sun and sea of August, especially for those who don't like crowds and are intrigued by culture and history. The Regional Directorate of the Museums of Sardinia has arranged the exceptional opening for August 15th. An initiative created to meet tourists and visitors, especially from Northern Sardinia.
In fact, the museums of Sassari and Caprera will be open. The “GA Sanna” Museum of Sassari in via Roma (from 9am to 1.45pm) offers a new layout in the reopened Castoldi Pavilion and a rich section dedicated to collections and the history of trade.
The National Art Gallery of Sassari in Piazza Santa Caterina (open from 9am to 7pm) has just been "enriched" with the exhibition of 140 works by Giuseppe Biasi, Sardinia's greatest painter, and offers a series of paintings ranging from 1400 to date. Furthermore, the temporary exhibition dedicated to the 'Memory of Gremi and Candelieri' has just been inaugurated, with photos by Carlo Antero Sanna, which tell a piece of history of the city's most beloved festival.
Those in Caprera can visit the Garibaldi Compendium from 8.30 to 19.30, with the splendid garden, in the shade of the Clelia pine, and the new exhibition space, inside Giuseppe Garibaldi's windmill , which contains some instruments related to the Caprera farm, among which the press for grinding olives and cleaning grain stands out. To delve deeper into the history of Garibaldi's life, a few kilometers away, there is the Giuseppe Garibaldi Memorial (from 8.30am to 1.45pm) in the Savoy fortress which houses the Museum. Visitors will be able to access four exhibition blocks, integral parts of Arbuticci's military architecture, in the multimedia rooms, entirely dedicated to the figure of the Hero of the Two Worlds.
