Sardinia is sold out for the week of Ferragosto : planes, hotels, restaurants, agritourisms, it's packed. And even finding an available beach umbrella has become a "mission impossible".
The numbers, explains Paolo Manca, regional president of Federalberghi, are equal to or even higher than those of last year: "Many have booked for some time - he says - but at least thirty percent are linked to last minute. Also because, while at the beginning of the season the costs of flights were quite high, in August the market showed a drop in prices that favored the last minute choice of Sardinia. A satisfactory season, also in view of the September forecasts. August, especially in the two central weeks, is the month of Italians. Foreigners, on the other hand, are divided throughout the season".
North or south it doesn't matter, the numbers are mind-boggling: in Cagliari for the period 9-18 August, between 210,000 and 220,000 passengers are expected, between arrivals and departures, with approximately 1,400 movements and 250,000 seats offered. The trend of the first twelve days of August records over 250,0000 transits, with an 11% growth compared to the same period in 2023. A lot of traffic also in the ports of the island, including connections with the smaller islands.
At Alghero airport, approximately 75,000 passengers are expected (from 9 to 18 August) and a 9% growth compared to 2023. In Olbia, the estimate is over 274,216 transits, again in the week from 9 to 18 August, with an increase of 12% (+34,067 units). In total, at the airports in the north of the island, traffic of approximately 349,000 passengers is expected for Ferragosto, with an increase of 12% compared to 2023. Both domestic and international market flows are growing, with the latter showing significant growth percentages: +15% compared to Ferragosto 2023 and +9% compared to 2019.
Cagliari confirms itself as the capital of cruises: on August 15th the Seaburn ovation arrives, the day after the Island Princess. On the 18th it is Music time, while on the 20th the Costa Smeralda returns. In Olbia August 15th with the Marella Discovery, then on the 20th and 21st the Costa Pacifica and Orchestra arrive.
