They call it the Champions League of fencing , and it awards European club titles for the first time in five of fencing's six weapons (the men's sword is missing).

On Saturday and Sunday Cagliari will be the continental fencing epicenter because the European Cup for clubs opens the international season , the one that will end with the World Cup next July in Milan.

The gyms of Monte Mixi and (for the semifinals and finals) the PalaPirastu host teams from about twenty nations with top-level athletes: seven Olympic golds, 41 world championships and 50 Europeans on the platform in two days in which entrance to the public will be free.

Organizing the event, on behalf of Federscherma and with the support of the Municipality of Cagliari, is the Athos Academy of Arms, already a protagonist in recent years with the Mediterranean Championships and the Italian Under 23 Championships.

On the platform also many blues : Andrea Cassarà and Arianna Errigo (Carabinieri) in the foil, Luca Curatoli (Fiamme Oro) in the saber, Alice Volpi and Martina Favaretto (Fiamme Oro) in the foil, Mara Navarria (Army) and Federica Isola (Air Force) in the sword Military), ending with the blue foil player Daniele Garozzo (Fiamme Gialle). The Italian teams are favorites but it won't be a walk in the park.
