Farian Sabahi will speak tomorrow at the Faculty of Economics, Law, and Political Sciences in Cagliari. "Contemporary history as a tool for deciphering the struggle for women's rights in Iran" is the title of the conference organized by the Soroptimist Club Cagliari in collaboration with UNESCO and the University. The speaker, Farian Sabahi, will speak tomorrow at 5:30 pm in the Maria Lai Hall at Via Nicolodi 106 in Cagliari.

Born in 1967, she is a senior researcher in Contemporary History at the University of Insubria and delegate for Institutional and Diplomatic Affairs at DISUIT (Department of Human Sciences and Innovation for the Territory). She will assume the position of associate professor on December 30, 2025. Specializing in Iran and Yemen, she is a member of SISSCO (Italian Society for the Study of Contemporary History), SIS (Italian Society of Women Historians), and AISO (Italian Association of Oral History). She holds degrees in Economics from Bocconi University and in Oriental History from Bologna, and earned a Ph.D. in History from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London with a thesis on the Army of Knowledge during the reign of Muhammad Reza Pahlavi (1963–79). She conducted research on oil buyback contracts (as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bologna) and on free trade zones in the Persian Gulf (as a research fellow at the Institute of Economic History, Bocconi University). Her research focuses on the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. She uses oral history and a multidisciplinary methodology that takes into account history, economics, religious and cultural aspects, with a focus on minorities and gender issues.

Speakers at the roundtable include Paola Piras of the University of Cagliari; Margherita Ledda, president of the Soroptimist International Club of Cagliari; and Stella Piro Vernier, president of the Cagliari UNESCO Club. Admission is free.
