The literary world is mourning the death of Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa, who died yesterday in Lima at the age of 89.

His son Álvaro announced it on his official X account: «With deep sorrow, we announce that our father, Mario Vargas Llosa, died in Lima, surrounded by his family and at peace».

Born in Arequipa on March 28, 1936, Vargas Llosa won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2010. Among his best-known novels are “The City and the Dogs” and “The Green House”.

According to the family's wishes, the funeral will be held privately and, in accordance with his wishes, his remains will be cremated.
