He leaves a deep mark on the world of culture and historical research for his ideas, his humanity and his rigor. Farewell to Valerio Strinati, who died at the age of 70. He was born in Rome, was a parliamentary advisor to the Senate and coordinator of cultural events at the Palazzo Madama Library, he dealt with the history of socialism and the Italian workers' movement, the history of institutions and social legislation. He wrote numerous essays on the political and social history of contemporary Italy.

He was very attached to Sardinia, in particular to the world of Emilio Lussu. He was thinking about the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the Cavaliere dei Rossomori. With Antonio Fanelli he edited, in 2018, issue 28 of the magazine “Il de Martino” entirely dedicated to the anti-fascist and political leader of Armungia, containing the unpublished interview attached on CD, conducted by Gianni Bosio and found in the tape library of the “Ernesto de Martino” Institute.

In recent days he had presented in Rome the volume “From exile in Sardinia to the institutions of the kingdom. Materials for a biography of Gaspare Finali” edited by Sardinian researchers Walter Falgio and Daniele Sanna. The magazine “Patria Indipendente”, which had him among its collaborators, remembers him as “a refined intellectual with far-reaching visions, a gentlemanly kindness of another time, author of books, involved with the major cultural realities of our country”.

Valerio Strinati was, in the XVI Legislature, chief secretary of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Depleted Uranium, chaired by the Sardinian Gian Piero Scanu. In that role he came to Sardinia, for a series of hearings and inspections, with the desire to know and deepen that has always been the distinctive trait of his personality.
