Farewell to Renata Scotto , an unforgettable soprano from Savona and one of the greatest interpreters of the 20th century. He was 89 years old .

After studying singing in Milan with Emilio Ghirardini, Scotto's debut came at the age of just 18, in 1952, at the Teatro Chiabrera in Savona: the role assigned to her was that of Violetta in Verdi's Traviata. Then his "premiere" at the Scala in Milan alongside Renata Tebaldi and Mario Del Monaco .

In 1957 the Teatro alla Scala went to Edinburgh to represent "La sonnambula", with Maria Callas. Given the great success, it was decided to add other performances, but Callas has other commitments and cannot sing; so, with only two days notice, on 3 September 1957 Renata Scotto replaced her, with enormous success thanks to which she became an international star.

In 1965 he made his debut with Madama Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera in New York , where he was present in 319 performances until 1987, and at the Royal Opera House in London with "La traviata".

From there a long career, studded with awards and applause in the biggest theaters in the world .

She has also been involved in opera direction: her premiere was “Madama Butterfly” at the Metropolitan Opera.
