Italy's gymnastics says goodbye to one of its protagonists: Riccardo Agabio, former Italian gymnast and prominent sports manager, has died at the age of 89. Originally from Cagliari, Agabio dedicated his life to sport, first as a high-level athlete and then as an institutional leader at the top of gymnastics and Coni.

His competitive career began with his debut in the national team at the 1954 World Championships in Rome , followed the following year by winning the team gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in Barcelona. In 1957 he took part in the European Championships in Paris, confirming his talent and dedication to the discipline.

After his career as an athlete, Agabio established himself as a sports manager, holding roles of great prestige. He was president of the Italian Gymnastics Federation, leading it with vision and determination, then reaching the vice-presidency of Coni , contributing significantly to the development of Italian sport.

Last October, after many years, he returned to his city to participate in the Regional Council in the special award in memory of Gigi Riva . On the same occasion, Agabio was awarded the prestigious "Luigi Ramponi" Award.
