After a long illness, Peppino di Capri, a singer with a career spanning over six decades and one of the most beloved figures in Italian music, passed away at the age of 86 in his beloved Capri. He is survived by his children, Igor with his first wife Roberta Stoppa, and Edoardo and Daria with Giuliana Gagliardi.
A refined pianist, Giuseppe Faiella, as he was born, was born in Capri on July 27, 1939, into a family of musicians. His musical talent was also precocious, marked in the 1960s by hits such as “Champagne,” “E mo e mo,” “Roberta,” “Let's Twist Again,” and “St. Tropez Twist.”
Di Capri has participated in fifteen editions of the Sanremo Music Festival, winning in 1973 with "Un grande amore e niente più" and in 1976 with "Non lo faccio più." In 2023, he received the Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award, a recognition of an artistic career that has spanned generations.
His last public appearance was a year ago when, amid applause and a standing ovation from the audience at an evening in his honor, he asked for the microphone to sing "Champagne" and "Il sognatore" with the band, the Capri Rockers, led by his son Edoardo Faiella.
