Farewell to Paola De Gioannis, teacher, historian, essayist, who died at the age of 86. She was born in Cagliari and in her city, in the mid-eighties, she was a city councilor elected with the Communist Party. She taught Philosophy, Italian Literature and History for many years. Highly appreciated by colleagues and students for her competence, dedication to the cause of education and generosity . Many students of the "Martini" Institute have paid homage to her through social media in recent days.
In the 1960s, she was among the founders of the Cgil-Scuola nell'Isola. She has dealt with historical issues and issues related to women's rights. In 1988, together with other scholars, she published the volume "La Sardegna e la storia", a text that was long adopted by the chair of History of Sardinia at the University of Cagliari . In 1991, she edited with Giuseppe Serri, "La Sardegna. Cultura e società" (La Nuova Italia, Florence), which received the European Federation of the Press Award. Again for the Nuova Italia and again with Giuseppe Serri, in 2001, she published "An island, a history, a culture". For Aipsa Edizioni, in 2015, she wrote "Annalena e le altre. Il Novecento con occhi di donna": a choral female story that spans, in a Cagliari setting, the entire span of the "short century" up to the dawn of the new millennium.
Paola De Gioannis, in addition to having been a member of the board of directors of the Gramsci Institute of Sardinia, offered her valuable contribution to regional and national magazines and newspapers . She cultivated a love for art, and dedicated herself with great passion to painting.
