"Alghero bids farewell to maestro Manlio Masu, one of the most representative artists of the second half of the twentieth century in Sardinia, also remembered for his great commitment to sports. With him, a piece of the city's history is gone, which we are committed to safeguarding and passing on so that future generations can also know and appreciate his talent and the immense legacy he leaves us." Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto comments on the passing of painter Manlio Masu, at the age of 89.

"Remembering Manlio Masu today means paying homage to a man of great sensitivity, culture and profound human values," says Pd city councilor Gabriella Esposito. "His figure represented for many an authentic point of reference, capable of leaving lasting traces not only through his works, but above all through his example."

Mario Bruno, former mayor of Alghero, says of Masu: «Always a master: in art, in his profession, in sport and in all his distinctive traits, which in him were style, delicacy, beauty, respect».
Even the city councilor and former mayor Marco Tedde considers the maestro Manlio Masu « one of the most important and prolific interpreters of the Sardinian figurative 20th century. To quote the poet Carles Duarte i Montserrat: an artist gifted with a radical aesthetic sensibility, of authentic talent. A gentleman from another time».

Michele Pais, city councilor, speaks of "a refined artist who with his art was able to represent Sardinia in an original way. An entire life dedicated to painting where the sea and the feminine universe predominate. But not only that. The city of Alghero, to which he has always been electively linked, loses a master. His precious works are the greatest legacy to preserve and pass on".
