Sardinian politics in mourning for the death, at the age of 82, of Giorgio Oppi , regional councilor of the UDC.

Last June he was rushed to the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari for pancreatitis.

Born in Iglesias in 1940, he was the dean of the regional assembly .

A life for politics, first in the ranks of the Christian Democrats and then, in the Second Republic, in the various evolutions of the crusader shield, from the CCD to the Union of the Center .

Municipal councilor in his Iglesias, he was elected to the regional council for the first time in 1979, achieving reconfirmation several times.

From 1999 to 2004 he led the regional department of hygiene, health and social assistance , while from 2009 to 2014 he was regional councilor for the environment .

In 2006 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies , on the UDC list. Then, in 2014, he returned to the regional council, later confirmed for the ninth time in the current legislature.

In recent years he had also come under investigation for some expense reimbursements, and was then acquitted in 2016 .
