Farewell to Franco Ziliani, who in 1961 had created the Berlucchi cellars in Erbusco (Brescia) together with Guido Berlucchi. He was 90 years old. The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at 11.30 in the parish of Paratico.
Oenologist, considered one of the fathers of modern Italian winemaking, he died in the year in which the first bottle of Franciacorta he created celebrated its 60th anniversary.
"Ziliani - recalls Cantina Berlucchi - lived his life realizing the dream of creating quality Italian sparkling wines, which could be at the level of the great French tradition. So it was that in 1955, a young winemaker called by Count Guido Berlucchi to Palazzo Lana in Borgonato (Brescia) to solve problems of stability of the wines then produced on the estate, he proposed the revolutionary idea of 'sparkling' those wines, which did not show sufficient 'personality' ".
