Farewell to Domenico Gigi Canu, founder and historic guitarist of Planet Funk

Domenico “Gigi” Canu, guitarist of Planet Funk, has died: 66 years old, he had been suffering from cancer for some time.
"It is with great sorrow that Planet Funk announces the untimely passing of Domenico Gigi Canu who passed away today at the age of 66, information on the funeral will be communicated as soon as possible". This was explained in a note by the About agency which "joins the family, friends and Planet Funk in this moment of great sorrow".
Canu was the historical guitarist of the group founded in 1999 by the two keyboardists Marco Baroni and Alex Neri, by Canu himself and by the bassist Sergio Della Monica, merging the old formation of the Neapolitans Souled Out, including Canu, and the Sarzana-based Kamasutra.
The group's first huge success dates back to the end of 2000, Chase The Sun, sung by Finnish Auli Kokko, which takes up the melody of "Alla luce del giorno", composed in 1969 by Ennio Morricone for the soundtrack of the film Metti, una sera a cena. In the spring of 2001, Inside all the People was released, sung by Englishman Dan Black, with whom Planet Funk formed a successful partnership that has lasted until today.
