The world of journalism mourns Demetrio Volcic, historical Rai correspondent from Eastern Europe and in particular from Moscow, who died in Gorizia at the age of 90, on 22 November last.

Sick, his health conditions have progressively worsened in recent times. He leaves behind a wife and son, who lives in Russia.

Born in Ljubljana to a father from Trieste and a mother from Gorizia, his family moved to Slovenia during the fascist period, only to return to Italy a few years later.

After embarking on the path of journalism, he lived in various cities, then began to travel East on a "mission" on behalf of Rai. He also became director of Tg1.

In 2000 he ran for the center-left and was elected to the EU Parliament.

In addition to being a journalist, he was also a writer. The latest book is from 2021.
