The American film industry is mourning the death of actress Catherine O'Hara, who died after a brief illness at her home in Los Angeles. She was 71 .

Born in Toronto, Canada, she took her first steps in front of the camera in the Canadian sketch comedy “Second City Television” between 1976 and 1984. Success then came in Hollywood with her participation in Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” in 1988 and, two years later, in “Home Alone”, where she played the mother of the young protagonist Kevin (Macaulay Culkin).

Her most recent roles include the comedy series "Schitt's Creek" (for which she won an Emmy Award). In recent years, she has also starred in "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" and the second season of the acclaimed series "The Last of Us."
