Ercole Baldini died in his hometown of Forlì at the age of 89.
Known as "The train of Forlì" where he was born on January 23, 1933, he was Olympic champion in Melbourne in 1956, won the Giro d'Italia in 1958 and the World Championship in Reims in the same year .
In 1956 he set the Hour record: at the Vigorelli in Milan he reached 46.394, beating the record from the French, Jacques Anquetil.
Baldini had also made his entry into the Giro d'Italia Hall of Fame in 2016 .
