The latest recognition a few days ago with the medal of the city of Genoa collected by his children Mario and Marta : Alberto Ponis, 91 years old, died this morning in his home in Palau , on the Gallura coast which was the scene of his architecture inspired by the shapes of the coast and traditional rural constructions, those of the stazzi.

He moved to Palau in 1963, after studying in London, to design some villas in Porto Rafael and opened a design studio together with his wife, the engineer Annarita Zalaffi. There are hundreds of buildings that bear Ponis' signature in Gallura , the villas integrated with the Mediterranean vegetation and the granite rocks between Punta Sardegna in Palau, Costa Paradiso in Trinità d'Agultu, but also many public structures including the Church of the Redeemer in Palau where the funeral will be held tomorrow at 3:30 pm.

Among Ponis' many awards are the In/Arch awards for the Stazzu Pulcheddu complex in Palau and the career award given in 2020 in Cagliari . In/Arch Sardegna also promoted the exhibition "Alberto Ponis L'architettura ei suoi Strumenti", curated by Paola Mura, re-proposed last year in Sassari, and the related catalogue.

On the occasion of the awarding of the Medal of the City of Genoa to Alberto Ponis, the Museum of Contemporary Art Villa Croce in Genoa will host the exhibition "Alberto Ponis. Building in nature" until the end of December.
