September brings with it an almost automatic temptation: to open the closet and convince yourself that something is missing. A coat, a sweater, a pair of jeans, maybe that bag we've been seeing everywhere. But before turning the desire for renewal into another shopping spree, it might be the right time to do exactly the opposite: stop and think.

Decluttering—getting rid of old items to organize and make room for only the truly useful—becomes the first stylish step of fall. Not just to free up space, but to truly understand what we own and perhaps what we've forgotten. Because often, our wardrobe just needs reorganizing.

So, get rid of all the clothes: an unused jacket can find new life over a skirt; last year's sweater can be perfectly paired with more elegant trousers; a summer shirt can continue to be worn under a blazer or cardigan. Once you've emptied your closet, you can even build a small personal capsule wardrobe, choosing pieces that really work together in terms of colors and occasions. This doesn't mean giving up on fashion, but rather making it more conscious: fewer impulse purchases and more opportunities to create different looks using the same elements.

Layering also helps. Fall is probably the most fun season for experimenting: shirts under sweaters, blazers over dresses, skirts with boots, jeans with tailored jackets. Your summer wardrobe doesn't necessarily have to be left in a box until spring: many of its pieces can become the foundation for your first fall looks.

And then there are the forgotten pieces, the ones that look new simply because we haven't worn them in a while. Finding them is almost like shopping without spending. So before deciding "I have nothing to wear," it's worth taking a thorough look through drawers and shelves. And discover that, to dress well this fall, you don't need to buy anything at all.
