It's been clear for some time that something special was brewing in Como . This season, however, Cesc Fabregas 's work on the lake seems to have reached its peak, as evidenced by the club's fourth-place finish in Serie A , which, as of today, would qualify for next season 's UEFA Champions League .

Yesterday (March 17), Fabregas won the Bearzot Award for best coach of the year . This recognition takes on even greater prestige considering that the Spanish coach is also the first foreign coach to win the award promoted by the FIGC .

"Fabregas truly deserves this award," declared FIGC President Gabriele Gravina . "It's the right choice. With him, we're rewarding quality , but also coaching, because he's demonstrating extraordinary things at the helm of Como and because he's a true scholar of football who chose Italy to further his education, earning a Master's degree at the UEFA Pro Course in Coverciano. Throughout his coaching career, he hasn't taken shortcuts, a characteristic he shares most closely with Enzo Bearzot , establishing himself in top-level football through the strength of his results and, even more so, through his performances."

During the ceremony, a special lifetime achievement award was also given to Fabio Capello .
