A breath of fresh air for Sardinian transporters , struggling with the expensive fuel that for months has been putting a strain on the approximately 2,500 companies that, with over 7,000 employees, transport 87% of all foodstuffs handled on the island every day.

Now the hauliers will be able to benefit from the 500 million euros that the government has made available to mitigate the effects of expensive diesel.

This was announced by Confartigianato Trasporti Sardegna by communicating the publication of the Aid Decree in the Official Gazette.

"A sector, that of Sardinian road haulage which, as of January 1 of this year, recorded a total decrease of 2.9% , of which 5.7% only in the artisan sector - explains the organization - Since 2009 , in Sardinia, about 20% of the entrepreneurial fabric has disappeared ".

At the provincial level in Cagliari , the registered enterprises were 1,123, of which 729 are artisans. Compared to last year, in the total of freight transport companies, the decrease was 2.9%.

In Nuoro there are 362 (of which 259 are artisans), with a decrease of 2.7%. In Oristano there are 250 (185 artisans) registering a -2.3%. Finally, in Sassari there are 741 companies, of which 474 are artisans: the canceled are 3.0%.

According to the calculations of Confartigianato Trasporti Sardegna, the dizzying increases in the cost of diesel fuel have also put a strain on the stability of the various production chains on the island. "The accounts are quickly made: a vehicle of 440 quintals of total weight that travels 150,000 km per year (minimum average distance for the vehicle to pay off) and has a consumption of 3 km / liter, 'drinks' 50,000 liters of diesel. Every cent Euro more in excise duties on diesel therefore 'weighs' on every single engine for 500 euros a year, or every 10 cents increase 'weighs' 5 thousand euros ".
