A family with two children and a car in tow who wants to take a holiday in Sardinia after Ferragosto must take into account a minimum expense of over 1,300 euros .

Adiconsum Sardegna states this, underlining the theme of very expensive holidays for Italians and placing emphasis on transport prices, which have grown exponentially this year (along with those of other goods and services), driven by increases in fuel prices.

Connections to the island can reach a monthly salary of an average worker . The consumer association has carried out an analysis of the fares of some widely used summer routes.

Assuming you leave on the evening of August 16th, arriving at your destination the following morning, and returning on Saturday August 24th, the most expensive connection is undoubtedly the Civitavecchia-Olbia : «If you choose seat accommodation on the outward journey and a free seat on the return journey , a family with two children and a car in tow must take into account a minimum expense of 1,324 euros, which rises to 1,640 euros if you opt for an inside cabin . On the same dates for the Genoa-Olbia route in an internal cabin the cost of the ticket is 1,483 euros ."

Again: Genoa-Porto Torres with going in the cabin and returning in a seat 1,323 euros, 1,190 with return in a free seat; Piombino-Golfo aranci, round trip in the cabin, 1,094.50 euros.

«The expensive flights, the expensive car rentals and the expensive taxis were not enough: the expensive ships are also rightly added to the list, to complete the terrible picture of transport costs for Sardinia and in Sardinia - comments the president of Adiconsum Sardinia, Giorgio Vargiu – The situation appears more alarming than ever, with the explosion of tariffs not justified by a real increase in costs for the production of the naval transport service . The data shows that maritime transport is not a healthy and competitive market, and that rates are leveled upwards . The companies exploit the attractiveness of Sardinia to increase the withdrawal from the pockets of those who want to spend their holidays on the island and, in doing so, reduce the budget available to families to spend on economic activities in Sardinia, with immense damage for all local activities ".
