Italy's third win in the group stage of the European Championships is their third, another 3-0 victory. This time, it's the hosts Sweden who have to make way for the Azzurre, but Isabelle Haak isn't enough.
Italy took center stage at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg, before 6,800 spectators. In an hour and a quarter, with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-14 scoreline that only showed moments of difficulty in the second set, the Italians sealed first place in Pool D with nine points, leaving them just a step away from the round of 16.
"Sweden isn't Turkey or Serbia, but a good team: if they score, we shouldn't dwell on our mistakes," Velasco repeated. This recalls the Olympic motto: "The here and now means we shouldn't think about yesterday, about past mistakes, but about playing, even accepting that our opponents might cause us problems."
Alessia Orro and her teammates performed exceptionally well, defending admirably and converting their attacking chances with precision.
Tomorrow is a rest day for the Azzurre, who will return to the field on Tuesday at 4 pm (live on Rai 2, Sky Sport Uno, Sky Sport Arena, and DAZN) against Slovakia, led by Italian coach Martino Volpini.
