Simona Quadarella doubled her 800m gold medal with a win in the 1500m freestyle at the European Championships in Paris. The Italian swimmer swam a championship-record 15:46.22, thus winning her fourth consecutive continental title in the long distance. Silver and bronze went to Germany's Isabel Gose and Maya Werner.
"Today was really tough. I tried to start a little faster, but I don't think it was a good idea. I'm still happy to have won, very happy. It's still a European gold, but I was hoping for something less. I've never managed to run under 15:50 at the European Championships."
Italy also won a medal in the 4x100-meter freestyle medley relay: bronze. Carlos D'Ambrosio, Thomas Ceccon, Sara Curtis, and Emma Virginia Menicucci set a new Italian record of 3:20.80, finishing behind Russia, who took gold, and the Netherlands, who took silver.
