Here we are: polling stations open from 3pm to 11pm on Saturday 8th June and from 7am to 11pm on Sunday 9th for the European elections, the administrative elections in 3,715 Italian municipalities (29 provincial capitals and six regional capitals) and the regional elections in Piedmont.

In Sardinia there are 27 municipalities called to elect the new mayor and the new municipal council: Cagliari, Monserrato, Sinnai, Sassari and Alghero those with more than 15 thousand inhabitants, the others are Onanì, Ortueri, Sarule, Villagrande Strisaili, Bosa, Magomadas, Sini, Sorradile, Castelsardo, Golfo Aranci, Illorai, Putifigari, Sorso, Villanova Monteleone, Calasetta, Esterzili, Genoni, Guasila, Samatzai, San Gavino Monreale, Sant'Anna Arresi, Serrenti.

In municipalities with more than 15 thousand inhabitants, the candidate who receives 50% +1 of the votes wins. If no one obtains this result, there will be a run-off between the two aspiring mayors with the most votes, which will be held on 22 and 23 June. In other municipalities it is enough to obtain one more vote than the other candidates. In centers with only one candidate, for the latter to be elected at least 40% of those entitled to vote must vote.

HOW TO VOTE IN LARGE MUNICIPALITIES

In centers with more than 15 thousand inhabitants (including Cagliari) there are three different options on how to fill out the form. You can draw a mark on the symbol of a dispute, the preference will go both to the list and to the connected mayoral candidate. You can also mark just the name of the mayoral candidate, voting only for him. Finally, split voting is possible: in this case the name of the mayoral candidate and the symbol of a list not connected to him must be crossed out. Next to the list symbol, one or two preferences can be indicated, if two must concern candidates of different sex, under penalty of cancellation of the second preference expressed.

HOW TO VOTE IN SMALL MUNICIPALITIES

Split voting is not permitted, all votes cast for a candidate go to the list linked to him. In centers with less than 5 thousand inhabitants only one preference can be expressed, in those between 5 thousand and 15 thousand two preferences always respecting gender alternation.

HOW TO VOTE IN THE EUROPEAN ELECTIONS

The voting system is pure proportional. Italy elects 76 MEPs, 8 in the Islands constituency which includes Sicily and Sardinia. The symbol of only one list must be crossed out on the form and from one to three preferences can be expressed next to it, respecting gender alternation.
