A first half as bad as in Tortona, but without a complete comeback like the one in Piedmont. In Athens, Peristeri won 98-84. This was Dinamo's second defeat, and their chances of advancing to the Europa Cup quarterfinals are now slim, given that they remain scoreless after two rounds.
The Sassari team had a truly terrible first half, with too many players playing poorly and shooting poorly (Pullen 1/6 and Johnson 0/6) or even being inconsistent, like Beliauskas and Thomas, who finished without a single basket. Thus, a few flashes from a determined McGlynn and the usual Visconti and Vincini weren't enough to stem the tide: 27-13 in the first quarter and 54-32 at halftime after having even reached -25.
In the third quarter, Sassari finally found Thomas, and with Visconti, they produced a comeback: 62-50 at the 26th minute. The home team simply needed to raise the intensity to bring the deficit back to +20. The final quarter also saw some flashes of brilliance, with Johnson leading 79-66 at the 33rd minute. Banco didn't give up, and in the 39th minute, Johnson cut the deficit to within 9 with a three-pointer to bring it to within 6. Van Tubbergen sealed the victory, finishing his impressive performance with 27 points.
For Dinamo, Johnson scored 19 points and Vincini 14 points with 8 rebounds.
