The role of women is increasingly central in entrepreneurship, especially in the public sector . This is emphasized by Fipe Confcommercio Sud Sardegna on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Nationally, according to 2024 data, there are over 94,000 women-owned public establishments, representing 28.8% of the total , a figure significantly higher than the national average for female entrepreneurship across all sectors, which stands at around 22%. Their role in employment is also significant: approximately 565,000 women are employed in public establishments, representing 50.7% of the sector's workforce.
This scenario is also reflected in Sardinia. On the island, there are approximately 38,700 registered female-owned businesses, equal to 23.3% of all businesses, while in the Cagliari-Oristano Chamber of Commerce area, the share is 22.9% .
In Cagliari, there are over 1,100 businesses operating, including bars, restaurants and clubs, which employ around 3,300 people, and approximately half of the entrepreneurs in the sector are women .
"In Southern Sardinia," emphasizes Emanuele Frongia, president of Fipe Confcommercio Sud Sardegna , "women represent a fundamental component of the public service sector. Many businesses are led by female entrepreneurs who, with passion and expertise, contribute to keeping our urban centers vibrant and enhancing the local food and wine offerings." These women often bring "innovation, attention to quality, and the ability to create inclusive work environments."
To strengthen the role of women, Fipe Confcommercio Sud Sardegna established the Women Entrepreneurs group last September. Luisa Carcangiu was elected to lead the group, alongside councilors Martina Benoni, Alessandra Gioia Glander, Annalisa Saddi, Cristiana Sedda, and Silvia Sollai .
The group's goal is to promote the professional growth of female public establishment entrepreneurs through training courses, cultural initiatives, and collaborations to address common challenges.
