Ennio Doris, historic founder and honorary president of Banca Mediolanum, died in Milan. He was 81 years old.

The news was given by his wife Lina Tombolato and their children Sara and Massimo, who - a note reads - "in these days of mourning" intend to "maintain strict confidentiality", which they ask everyone to "want to respect".

Born on 3 July 1940 in Tombolo, in the province of Padua, he was one of the protagonists of Italian finance for over four decades.
After graduating from high school, he began working as a door-to-door salesman for Banca Antoniana in Padua and Trieste. In 1969 he began his activity in the field of financial consultancy for the Fideuram company. In 1971 he joined Dival (Ras group), in which in ten years - holding the role of divisional manager - he has grown business and personnel from a few collaborators to 700 employees.

In 1982 he set up the savings consulting firm Programma Italia, jointly owned by Doris and the Fininvest Group, which in 1994 changed its name to Mediolanum.

In 1992 he was awarded the Honor of Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

In 2002 he was named Cavaliere del Lavoro.

In 2018 Forbes placed him in 17th place in the ranking of the richest men in Italy, with an estimated assets of around three billion euros.
