There are two main projects relating to the energy transition program for Sardinia as envisaged in the draft decree signed by the Minister for Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani, a few days ago.

The provision identifies works and infrastructures necessary for the phase-out of the use of coal on the island and for the decarbonisation of the industrial sectors.

The draft shows that there are two projects: the construction of the Hvdc Sardinia - Sicily Cable, part of the Tyrrhenian Link, of 500 + 500 MW for the connection between the two major islands. With regard to the phase-out, a virtual connection is envisaged for the contribution of LNG through the transport of natural gas by sea. The regasification terminal of Panigaglia (in Liguria) and off the coast of Tuscany (Olt), will allow the loading of LNG on barges, while the gas "shuttle ships" - with the system called Floating Storage and Regasification Units (Fsru) - will dock in the port of Portovesme for the south of the island and serving the metropolitan city of Cagliari, in Porto Torres for the north and the metropolitan area of Sassari.

The construction of a regasification plant in the port area of Oristano is also planned. From these three points will unravel the networks that will serve the whole of Sardinia.

It will be the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment, within six months from the date of entry into force of the decree, to define the regulatory framework to allow, for at least five years, the distribution tariffs "in line with those of tariff areas with similar costs ".

THE MAYOR OF PORTOSCUSO - "It is pursued with an anachronistic design of a dpcm Sardinia that forces the Sardinians to become energetically dependent on Sicily and Tuscany. A serious fact that will cost the Sardinians thousands of jobs as a result of the closure of coal plants and related activities, minimally replaced with gas, which notoriously occupies very few people in percentage terms ", this is the comment by Giorgio Alimonda, mayor of Portoscuso, a municipality in which one of the two gas tankers will be located.

"This transition - he adds - is not even ecological due to the fact that CO2 emissions will be almost equivalent to the current situation, if we also consider road transport which will certainly be increased. For Portoscuso it is an unacceptable solution due to the further negative environmental impacts. that would be determined but in particular for the safety and usability of the port and of the citizens residing in the adjacent inhabited center ".
