The first Emmys in attendance since the start of the pandemic crown "The Crown": the fourth season of the award-winning saga about the British royal family won the award for the best drama series, giving Netflix its first statuette in the category.
To "Ted Lasso" the other crown for the comedy: the series with Jason Sudeikis on the American football coach with a big heart called to coach a British football team at perennial risk of relegation was the favorite of the eve in front of "Hacks" with Jean Smart, in turn winner in the category of the best comic actress with the part of a "comedian" in Las Vegas in the style of Joan Rivers.
The challenge between Netflix's "Queen of Chess", Michaela Coel's "I May Destroy You" and Hbo's "Murder in Easttown" both of chessboard played by Anya Taylor-James, while Kate Winlet, in the role of the policewoman Mare, won for best actress.
For "The Crown" few statuettes also for its cast: they won Josh O'Connor (Carlo) as best actor in a drama series and Olivia Colman (Queen Elizabeth) and then Gillian Anderson (Margaret Thatcher) and Tobias Menzier (Philip). Peter Morgan also honored for screenplay and director Jessica Hobbs.
Netflix is therefore confirmed as the "big winner" of the Emmys with a total of 44 trophies including ten in the Primetime awards ceremony. Followed by Hbo / Hbo Max with 19 statuettes and Disney + with 14, and then Apple TV with 11, four of which for "Ted Lasso".
Conducted by home comedian Cedric the Entertainer at CBS, the ceremony took place in Los Angeles in a tent behind its traditional location, the Microsoft Theater: a few hundred guests seated at the table in Golden Globes style instead of the usual over seven thousand.
Not all the candidates spoke in attendance: among them the cast of "The Crown", gathered in London to celebrate, as last year the cast of "Schitt's Creek" did in Toronto.
