Endless waits (yesterday, up to 9 hours for green codes at the Monserrato Polyclinic); heavy boarding (with patients waiting for days, often in the corridors, before being admitted to the wards); staff shortages and young professionals fleeing emergency care; contract workers expiring; and serious repercussions on the ambulance and rescue volunteer system .
The very serious crisis of the emergency rooms on the island – partly due to the deficits in general medicine – was described in detail yesterday in the Health Commission of the Regional Council chaired by Car Fundoni (Pd) with the hearing of the directors of the services and the general managers of the companies, and " the risk of closure of various facilities ", as underlined by Corrado Meloni (FdI), "has unfortunately been dramatically confirmed".
From Sassari, Chief Physician Paolo Pinna Parpaglia denounces "the enormous influx into the emergency room due to the shortcomings of local medicine, but also because it costs the patient nothing. We are a social facility open day and night, a home for the homeless, the drunk, the troublemaker. And so the emergency room ends up paralyzed."
