Record numbers for the month just ended at Cagliari Elmas airport . Passengers , between arrivals and departures, were 412,605 with a 280% growth compared to the same month in 2021. It is the best May ever for the main Sardinian airport , which even sees a growth of about 5% compared to record numbers of May 2019.
The 2022 summer season, which started last March 27, is therefore full of optimism also thanks to a wide range of destinations , connections, places and frequencies. Confirming the clear recovery in air traffic, in the first 5 months of 2022 Cagliari Airport recorded approximately 1,280,000 passengers, a figure which shows an increase of over 270% in comparison with the same period of 2021.
Between January and May of this year, the travelers who chose the domestic routes were over 1 million (+ 210%). The exploit on international routes is remarkable with over 240,000 passengers (+ 3,000%). There was also a significant increase in the movements of aircraft flying to 11,000 (+ 150%).
The numbers relating to traffic flows in the first months of 2022 were positively commented by the top management of the Cagliari Airport management company , which for the summer set up an extremely varied network with over 18,000 scheduled flights, 38 national and 53 international connections, for a total of 91 routes operated with direct flights.
THE CONTROL TOWER - Just today the regional transport department also announced that it has signed an agreement with Sogaer for the construction of the new control tower and the technical block of the ENAV in the Cagliari port. A total investment of 23 million euros is foreseen: 16 million allocated by the Region to which are added the co-financing of Sogaer (2 million) and ENAV (5 million).

In particular, the construction of an advanced local air traffic control system (Twr), a building called "Technical Block" and the connection for the exchange of data - Flight data processing (Fdp) - between the new control tower and the approach radar of the military airport of Decimomannu. The work will be located in the south-east sector of the airport area.
