The provision of the Draghi government decreases the amount but does not cancel the effects of the sting on the bills for typical families, who will spend about 145 euros more for electricity and 155 more for gas in the current year.
The race in energy prices does not stop, oil has risen to its maximum in three years and - in addition to gasoline - there are increases in electricity and gas bills. Since Friday, tariffs have risen by almost 30% for electricity and by over 14% for gas.
Price increases that could have been much worse without the government's $ 3.5 billion intervention.
"The extraordinary dynamics of the prices of raw materials towards historical highs and the high prices of CO2 emission permits, would have led to an increase of more than 45% of the electricity bill and of more than 30% of that of gas", explains the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment (Arera). But thanks to the government's emergency decree, which made it possible to cushion the impact on 35 million customers including families (29 million) and micro-enterprises, the Arera was able to temporarily cancel the general system charges in the bill and increase the bonus. social to families in difficulty (for the 3 million families with the electricity bonus and the 2.5 million with the gas bonus, the increases were practically zero).
The final effect is that the typical family will spend around 631 euros this year for electricity, with an increase of around 145 euros on an annual basis, and 1,130 euros for the gas bill (+155 euros per year). An expense that is much higher (+ 30% for electricity and + 15% for gas) than that of 2020, when, however, in the period of the pandemic, prices were particularly low: if we compare with 2019, before health emergency, the annual expenditure for electricity is about 13% higher, while that for gas has practically returned to pre-covid levels.
Behind the tariff increases is the strong growth trend in the prices of the main energy raw materials, with gas prices in particular increased by more than 80% in the third quarter compared to the previous three months. Prices also related to the cost of Co2 which, since the end of August, has stood at over 60 euros / tCo2 (they were 28 euros in September 2020).
