One million euros to set up a powerful and efficient connection to SOS Enattos, in Lula, candidates to host the Einstein Telescope observatory.
The Region has allocated them and from today the SAR-GRAV laboratory housed in the former mines will finally be able to take advantage of high-capacity connectivity.
The laboratory, essential for the qualification of the site to host the Einstein Telescope in the future, has in fact been connected to the national GARR research backbone.
«With this intervention we confirm the regional administration's strong desire to support research and the creation of the large infrastructures necessary for its carrying out», explained the Councilor for Planning and Budget, Giuseppe Fasolino.
«The SAR-GRAV Project and the connection of the SOS Enattos site to the GARR network - continued the representative of the Solinas Council - are evidence of our administration's commitment to making Sardinia the ideal place in which to carry out research at the highest level and a concrete sign, and it will not be the last, of full support for the Italian process aimed at identifying our island as the seat of the Einstein Telescope", concluded Fasolino, also recalling how the works for the connection of the site to the national network of the research were carried out thanks to an agreement between the University of Sassari, leader of the SAR-GRAV project, and GARR, the national university and research network.
The connection will be managed by the INFN National Institute of Nuclear Physics, leader of the scientific consortium supporting the Einstein Telescope project.
The challenge linked to the Einstein Telescope and this latest and important news which brings ET even closer to Sardinia, will also be at the center of one of the events scheduled for the Festival delle Regioni in Turin (30 September-3 October). Specifically, on Saturday 30th from 5pm Professors Alberto Masoni (former Director of the Cagliari section of the INFN) and Luigi Guiso (Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance in Rome) will present what is today considered par excellence the strategic project for the future of the Sardinia, Italy and Europe.
Since June, Sardinia, with SOS Enattos, has been officially nominated by the Government to host the infrastructure that will allow the universe to be observed from the bowels of the earth, from Lula (the Netherlands is competing with Italy).
This is the only investment capable of moving economic flows and people towards Sardinia and is the first and greatest example of the sustainable development linked to innovation that the Sardinia Region supports internationally.
Going into the specifics of the intervention started today, the regional funding of one million euros (which completes the overall funding of 3 and a half million already invested by the Region in the laboratory) has made it possible to interconnect the headquarters of the SAR-GRAV laboratory to the national research network GARR, thanks to the creation of a circuit with a long optical fiber segment dedicated exclusively to the laboratory with an initial capacity of 1 Gbps.
