Fabio Albieri is the president of EGAS for the third time. This was decided by Alessandra Todde and the four center-right mayors (including Albieri himself), who voted last Wednesday to reconfirm the incumbent. But for the Democratic Party and the Progressives, today as then, the election is invalid.

So the rift over Egas has become a rift. This morning, at the agency's headquarters on Viale dei Giornalisti in Cagliari, last Wednesday's session continued, the one in which Albieri had received five out of eleven votes. One from Alessandra Todde, another from the outgoing president himself, in his capacity as mayor of Calangianus, plus three others from the tricolor sashes of Olbia ( Settimo Nizzi ), Capoterra ( Beniamino Garau ), and Nule ( Giovanni Antonio Mellino ).

Since it was a continuation of the session, the polls could not be reopened this morning. So Todde had the regularity of the December 3rd vote recorded in the minutes. Furthermore, he would have designated April 30, 2026, as the end of his term, coinciding with the approval of the budget.

All this without the mayors of Campo Largo adding anything to last week's position, in which they explained that an absolute majority, meaning six votes, is needed to elect the president. This is the position of the mayors of Cagliari ( Massimo Zedda ), Porto Torres ( Massimo Mulas ), Gonnesa ( Pietro Cocco ), Sarule ( Maurizio Sirca ), and Padru ( Antonello Idini ). Equidistant is the Municipality of Tissi, represented by Giovanni Maria Budroni , who, representing Orizzzonte Comune, has been calling for collegiality in the leadership of the institution for weeks.

But a mystery has also been added to the chaos: Egas has released a note declaring the election to be completely legitimate and, what's more, to be for a three-year period.

It reads: "Cagliari, December 10, 2025. The newly formed Institutional Area Committee of EGAS has reappointed Fabio Albieri as president of the Authority for the next three years. Albieri, 50, mayor of Calangianus and now in his third term, was first elected to lead the Authority in July 2019. The Institutional Area Committee is composed of ten mayors representing the different areas of the island and a representative of the Sardinia Region. In addition to President Albieri, its members include mayors Massimo Zedda (Cagliari), Settimo Nizzi (Olbia), Massimo Mulas (Porto Torres), Beniamino Garau (Capoterra), Antonello Idini (Padru), Maurizio Sirca (Sarule), Giovanni Maria Budroni (Tissi), and Giuseppe Antonio Mellino (Nule)."

Cocco was forgotten on the list. But above all, there's no trace of the clash. The day promises to be long. So does the distance.
