Farmers, producers and transport companies of agri-food products, to and from Sardinia, are reporting to Confagricoltura in these hours that from 4 to 11 April, on the occasion of the Easter weekend, there will be a reduction in the places available on ships for trucks carrying food .
The alarm comes first of all from the producers who collect and box the fruit and vegetables, often sending them to the markets beyond the Tyrrhenian Sea, with increasingly stringent perishability times for goods as temperatures rise.
According to the carriers, the reduction of seats available on outgoing and incoming ships would be due to an increase in seats dedicated to the civilian traffic of tourists , who move ahead of the bridges of the religious and national spring holidays.
"Reducing the spaces for articulated lorries - observed the president of Confagricoltura Sardinia, Paolo Mele - means increasing the times of arrival of the products, with the risk of not respecting the commitments undertaken in the commercial contracts and of incurring penalties and penalties, for the non-delivery, or in bringing highly perishable foods to the limit of the law. An increasing climate of concern among farmers in view of the summer season which, according to various analyses, should lead to record numbers in the tourism sector with a strong reduction therefore of cargo places on ships sailing the Tyrrhenian Sea".
«We therefore appeal to the Region - the conclusion - to take all the necessary actions with the shipowners, perhaps increasing the means of transport, so as to be able to ensure a high tourist flow, very important for the Sardinian economies, and at the same time the fundamental exchange of goods between our island and the rest of the world».
