The recent strike of actors and screenwriters of the American union SAG-AFTRA is marking day after day a series of delays and postponements for the titles expected in the near future, and while fully respecting the positions advocated by the categories of the sector to protect their rights, he perceives no small amount of displeasure from those eagerly awaiting their theatrical release.
The same fate befell “Dune: Part 2” - a sci-fi sequel inspired by the novel by Frank Herbert starring the young star Timothée Chalamet and directed by the visionary genius of Denis Villeneuve - which according to the latest decisions on behalf of Warner Bros. Discovery will be made available in US theaters starting March 15, 2024, and no longer November 3, 2023 as planned.
Nonetheless, it is curious to note the director's interest in wanting to make a third episode right now. The Canadian director would seem to be already considering the necessary procedures to start the project, which should be based on the second novel of the cycle entitled "Messiah of Dune", and of which an adaptation seems to have already been written. In an interview with Empire Magazine he said: «If I could make a trilogy, it would be my dream. Dune Messiah is the answer to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero, and this was not what Paul Herbert wanted to do. My adaptation is closer to his idea that it's actually a warning."
In the same way, Villeneuve has put his hands forward by clarifying that he wants to close the circle with a trilogy , that is, without expanding to the subsequent novels of the saga which could potentially enjoy any spin-offs or related television series. The specific reason for this choice seems to lie in the content of the aforementioned: «Subsequently the novels of the saga become more esoteric».
But before we even fantasize about what we might expect in a third installment, it's already been teased that Part 2 will pick up right where the debut film left off , with Paul Atreides' character finally reunited with Chani and teaming up together. to the Fremen to wage war against the ruthless Harkonnen.
In this sequel we will find stars such as Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård and Dave Bautista involved in their respective roles. Among the new faces, Austin Butler in the role of Feyd Rautha - an antagonist that Villeneuve has labeled as «a master of the sword crossed with a psychotic serial killer» - Christopher Walken in the role of the Emperor, Florence Pugh in that as Princess Irulan Corrino, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli.
We recall that the choice of postponement in theaters - which also conditioned the plans for other big names such as "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" and "The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim" - seems to be due on the part of Warner and Legendary to the fear that the stars involved may not offer their availability for the promotion. We will see if any developments will tend towards the confirmation of the agreements established or instead suggest further delays.
